Segno & repeat passages
Open a segno passage with [ and close it with a run of one or more ] on the last note. The number of closing brackets selects the marking: one bracket gives a plain return, two add “al Coda”, three or more add “al Fine”. A closing run with no prior [ in the passage produces the D.C. (Da Capo) family instead of D.S. (Dal Segno).
- ] after [ — D.S. | ]] — D.S. al Coda | ]]] — D.S. al Fine.
- ] with no [ — D.C. | ]] — D.C. al Coda | ]]] — D.C. al Fine.
S: [ d r m f ] s l t d ]
Typed-text markers
Plain words are also recognised as repeat annotations for the following beat, if you prefer spelling them out: D.C., D.C. al Fine, D.C. al Coda, and D.S.
S: d r m f D.C. al Fine
Endings (volta brackets)
First- and second-time bars are drawn as brackets above the beat cells they span. Mark a first-time bar with ]1. followed by one underscore per beat under the bracket, and an open-ended second-time bar with ]2.
